Basketball - FAQ

What does it cost to be a on the Cypress Heat Select Team?
Cost to participate with the Heat during the 2007 - 2008 season is $1,950.00. Club expenses include AAU and BCI membership, insurance, administrative costs, gym rental, tournament and fees. This amount can be broken into monthly payments (8 payments) with a non-refundable downpayment of $500.00 (covers reserving spot on team). All Coaches are qualified, trained and paid to provide your child with the best instructional and developmental programs available.

Is this a "league"?
No, we compete in invitational weekend "tournaments" on a given Fri. night thru Sun. afternoon, where clubs register to play. The host club will rent gyms, hire referees, schedule the games, recommend hotels and restaurant, and charge entry fees to the participating teams. The host club will send out announcements, accept registrations from other teams, and set up the games, usually 3-5 per weekend. All tournaments are age and sex based. (i.e. boys 12 and under "12u", girls 15 and under "15u")

When is the season?
This is a year long program (October– August).
  • Development Phase (Oct - Feb): During this phase, we work on physical conditioning and development of fundamentals. This season will not conflict with a player in other sports (school or recreation). See our Development Programs detailed on the website.
  • Competition Phase (March - August): This is when all the hard work pays off. Our focus shifts to a more competitive team development phase. We play in tournaments about every three weeks culminating with National tournaments in June and August. All players must be available during this time.
What if an athlete is selected to a team?
If your athlete is selected, all paperwork must be completed immediately following tryouts. This will consist of providing a copy of the athlete's Birth Certificate, completing a registration application, paying the registration fee, sizing and purchasing of the uniform. This has to be completed at this time in order for your athlete to make the team. Practice schedules will be created shortly after the tryout weekend. Practice times will vary by team and grade. Coaches will be contacting their players with this info. All practices will be held at the Texas Tornados Training Facility at 8835 Wheatcross, Houston, TX 77095.

What type of volunteer activities are parents required to do?
Tournament volunteers include site directors, timers, scorekeepers, admission workers, concession staff, Field Recruiters, Field Marketing Managers, etc..
